Default Ds Overheat under extreme conditions....Normal??

I got my water temp gauge from jtatv. c om and mounted it to my dash. Lites up at night, too.
I wanted to go with AutoMeter Pro-Comp series to match the tach, but got this one for free. So I used it and it has worked good so far. ESR is another one that mounts right there on the hose between the thermostat and radiator. I hear they work but you can't see them like the one mounted to the dash.

Whatever happened, ds1? Everything working good? I live in South Florida and a lot of us use Engine Ice coolant and in-line coolers to help beat the heat. Seems to work okay.
