There is a recall on the oil sending units. You may also have a problem with the water temp switch, but most likely it's the faulty oil sending unit.

If you are past warranty, just get a replacement for the F650 from a BMW dealer or the "replacement" one from your Bombardier dealer.

Several people reported of the oil light coming on when it was at normal temperatures. That's why the recall was issued.

Good luck,

If you want to fix it yourself, hot wire the fan with 12v and see if the fan runs. Either at the connector or by probing the leads going into the fan motor. If it does, the problem is upstream, most likely the coolant temp switch. If not, it's fan motor time. The oil pressure switch should have no relation to the cooling fan operation.

I had the same problem, the fan would not come on at all. I short circuited the wires at the fan thermo switch (big sender unit) next to temp sender unit, the fan failed to operate. The fan was stuffed so it was replaced under warranty.

Just got the word back from the dealer and it is the coolant temp switch that is bad. No parts in stock will have to order it from Canada. This puts my work back on the Qwiksilver carb.

Went riding today,I am still breaking it in,and noticed my temp light was on.I stoped it for a while, got back on it was off for a second then came back on.I looked at the fan and it was not working. It will be going back to the shop in the morning to have them look at it.Did they not, have this same thing with the fan, happen in the first test of the DS, in Dirtwheels magazine?

When I first bought my DS650 in January, I noticed the oil light flicker and the fan never would come on. Turned out there was a shorted wire preventing the fan from coming on. The oil pressure switch also needed replacing.
