Default DS650 help please

i posted on extreme garage.com and i have not gotten many answers.

here are my questions..(i have a 03 ds, 50 hrs, run at less than 1200 ft elevation)

1) i have an hmf pipe, the jet that came with the pipe(no clue what size it is), and a uni filter. The problem is this. the bike really flattens out at mid to high rpm and it feels way off. also the pipe is black and full of sut(rich condition). But, i have come to the conclusion to get new jets, and completly remove the air box bc i have my outlander 800 to play in the water and dirt. SO.. ebay has REAL mikuni jet kit with 170 all the way up to 190 mains with new carb bowl screws for 33 bucks. Is this a good price? should i get it? also, when replacing the intake box, what kind of filter set up will i run? one bolted right to the carb??

2) my valves are way loud... like so loud that i can hear them over the loud exhaust at an idle. i want to know how to check and adjust them. if needed.

3) are the ron wood 60% springs ok to use with a good condition stock clutch?

so i conclusion what filter should i buy to replace the removed air box? is that i good price for the jet kit and which jet should i use? are the Ron wood racing 60% springs ok to use with my stock clutch? and where can i find a write up on checking the valves and adjusting(a how to)

thanks in advance

Leave the air box lid on. The noise you are hearing is likely the cam chain due to a faulty tensioner. Remove it and clean. If that is not it then make sure you idle is set correctly.
THe springs are alright, i have them with my dirt digger clutch, but i would sand/scour the steel plates first. As far as the jet kit, well my experience was I went this route first but could never get it just right, so I got a dyno jet kit and had the dealer dyno tune it and now it is right on!! So it is just your liking on this . Hope this helps.

Later,
Chiknhawk

why not take out the box and tune it with a big jet. I guess i am just thinking that more air and fuel will equal more power.

chiknhawk is one of those East coast guys so be careful with his advice! Lose the airbox and snorkels completely (weight) and do what we all told you "over there". If you start out by telling people where you are from you get alot better help alot quicker, cuts down on the guessing game.
Now, go put that HMF on, .175 jet to start, K&N w/Outerwear, and just stay away from the water.

And don't say extremegarage.com on here. You will be censored. DDR either!

Good luck and welcome to the best forum on the net.

We know you're from VA, all of us "over there" are the same folks here. But there are alot more here that don't stray. Mostly.
