When you look at the cylinder wall from the side a bit: does it look polished with a mirror finish? or does it have lines that go horizontal but make smaller opened X's? or does it make X's that are wider open? All here and prolly a couple more mean you have a clean cylinder. One thing they should never have are vertical lines from top to bottom.

Those lines are hone marks, you want those! The marks help with holding oil on the walls and helps with sealing the rings if the walls are to smooth the rings wont seal as well and if the walls are to ruff the rings wear too fast
