East Coast DS Days - Silver Lake Sand Dunes
#211
just got back. seven hour drive and its good to be on the couch. anyway for all to know, sunday after russ and chris left the sun came out and shined all day long. i actually swam in that big lake bigwaynester was talking about. let my girl ride my bike up test hill and she did great. i think its time to upgradeher trailboss. as already said scoobs bike and gary's were sickeningly fast and next year we will build on what was started this year. for those who could not make it, you missed a good time. also, russ and chris and everyone else who got greasy as he11 to get my ds going, thanks. i cant describe how cool it was for the guys who i had just met that day to be wrenching on my bike in the sun getting filthy so i could ride. amazing. that is the kind of stuff that sealed the deal for me going to ECDS-days as long as it happens. josh- your bike looks as good as it did the first time i saw its pics. nice! little sahara will probably be in my future. hightower keep me informed of your trips so i can plan accordingly. sunday was great riding after the rain stopped and last night was beautiful as well. got to see some long travel buggies wheelying up test hill and saw one take flight over the top of it! that was wicked.
bigwaynester- your yfz was not only fast but very clean. nice job. i know your not done though, lol.
i may make another trip this fall. keep me informed.
there is a open ivitation to wellsville, ohio for those who like hairy hillclimbs and great trail riding with no rules. bring lots of wood for huge bonfires, lots of beer, trail tires, and leave the spark arrestors and quiet cores at home because rules are non-existent. cant wait to ride with you guys again.
YES, silver hills concentration camp could be a little more user friendly if you know what i mean.
dave/entomber, thanks for the parts, thay are greatly appreciated. sorry about your bike but that stuff happens. i cant wait to see your build when its done. it will be sick i am sure.

AWESOME TIME!!
Everybody and I mean everybody I met was a pleasure to hang with, it was great to see old friends and make plenty of new ones too!! Great to meet the guys from DuneReview too!!
The weather was great, blue sky and dry sand!! Usually dry sand and cool temps don't go hand in hand, so I can take the heat as long as we've got razors, and razors we had!!
We rode hard every day, well at least part of every day anyway. Hitting all the jumps along the right side off all the bigger dunes, then looping back around through the tree trails zig-zagging back and forth and up and down all the tree shoots to come around for another lap over all the jumps, it was great man! We rode our ***** off friday and saturday!! Dstroyer's buddy on the predator (darnit I don't remember his name!) led some god ones too, he was there to ride and ride we did!
It was really cool that most of the bike problems that were encountered were overcome through group effort, people lending parts and helping hands, that's all part of the fun too, and no big group gathering will ever be without it. Stuff happens, and its great to see the fellowship come together and tackle it all.
Drags were a blast!! Scooby's bike is amazing fast man, its incredible!! And Dstroyer's DSXR750, very fast and good eye candy to boot. Those two bikes were untouchable by anyone else in the park! Then you had Wayne on his YFZ523 Ice Cube motor, who couldn't be beat by anybody else aside from the afore mentioned. Jmann's blue and silver DS is gorgeous and fast, the +4 swingarm on methanol really has him hammering out of the hole hard, and he stays out there with it the whole way, it was the fastest rotax powered DS there besides Scooby's of course. Entomber's RWR stage 3 race head needs a couple things to take him - clutch repair, and a longer swing arm. It was impossible for any stock swingarmed DS to get out of the hole right in the wet sand we were racing in! I had a blast dragging everybody, countless times, its so much fun. Don't worry about the roost Entomber, it wasn't your fault at all, the track just kept getting too crowded. Besides, it wasn't nothin' compared to that 400 pound dump truck load Scooby layed on me man!! Next year, if I show up with a +4 and methanol, maybe I can try to lay some of that on Wayne!
Sorry the campground was like a concetration camp, I've been there several times before but it was always weekdays, I had no idea he had seperate rules for the weekends!! What a d!ck man, I mean that guy was a complete D!CK!!! I will never stay there again!! Next year, we will plan farther ahead, and plan on all of us staying together somewhere, so we can all hang out at night after the voucher line!!
Until next time, we'll all keep in touch on the forums!

good meeting you too 05dsrider, and your family too! those outlanders are really sweet!
the campground you mention sounds great, maybe that's where we need to think about for next year!
that rain on sunday was hurrendous man! it poored, the parking lot was like a lake afterwards!
I was wearing tinted goggles, didn't notice how cloudy it was getting until all of a sudden I was seeing lightening!
Glad the weather held until the last day!
Bombsaint, you stayed and rode on Monday didn't you? How as it after that storm? a little rougher I'd guess..

Hightower, I just realized you didn't get to ride my 01 with the +4 like you wanted. Hopefully your not planning on making the change till winter and we can hook up again at Silver Lake, make sure you let me know anytime you plan on going and I will be there.
AND
Bombsaint you didn't get to ride my 04 with the TM like I promised, shucks looks like we will have to meat up again for a ride.
I think it was fate so we could all ride again this year.

Yes it was a very busy weekend, I had nothing but 100% fun every second of it too, and there just wasn't time to do all the swapping around of bikes like I know we all wanted to do. But yes indeed there WILL be a 'next time'!
I damn sure need a swinger man, all that clutch feathuring to keep the front down at the start costs the race, period, but she aint just a drag bike and I gotta make sure that however long I go isn't gonna hamper me too much in the trails...
Also we didn't talk much about tires, and front end geometry, and all that stuff that makes sand riding easier and more fun, especially in the tight turns of the tree trails. Things a guy can do, tires a guy can wear, handlebar ergonomics and clutch/brake/throttle positioning to elleviate fatigue in the hands and arms. I don't get sore anymore when I ride, except a little monkey butt now and again, half of its due to being used to it, but the other half came from playing over time with ergos to make it all a bit easier. Things I gotsta share, hard to explain but easy to show!
