I'm sure quite a few of our daily purchases are assembled in Mexico, alot more than we realize. I'm also pretty sure that BRP's QC people will be making the move along with the assembly. So, what sucks about this whole situation is that BRP will reap huge cost reductions and we, the consumer will not have any of that savings passed along to us.
Actually, as I understand it the ATV division is the only one moving down there. It is new enough that it isn't profitable yet like the snowmobile and Ski-do lines. The move is not to line their pockets but by necessity so that people don't have to pay $12k for a DS. I am guessing that BRP was hoping for more volume by now when they established their pricing. They must have calculated that at current cost of manufacturing per unit at the number of units they are moving, they will be bankrupt by 2010 or some such timeframe so the answer was to cut cost of manufacturing so they didn't have to raise the prices on their quads by a percentage that is unacceptable to the market to stay a-float.

SO sending those assembly jobs to Mexico will benefit all right? BRP gets a machine assembled at a fraction of the cost.... the Mexicans get good jobs.... the cost savings is passed onto the consumer but wait the only people who can afford them are the engineers who designed them or the Mexicans who built them. Get real people if jobs keep going across borders then so will the buying power of our country. Last I looked not many unemployed people buy $10000 ATV's!

I said there was a rumour of a 2-stroke, I didn't say it was for sure. BRP makes VERY efficient 2-stroke snowmobiles w/ EFI that are cleaner than a lot of 4-strokes. Its possible someone was thinking outloud and hoping they would put a clean burning 2-stoke in an atv chassis. More than likely it will be a 450 4-stroke, possibly a smaller version of the DS650.

I do know for a fact that BRP will be introducing a new quad every 6 months. The 650 Outlander finally showed up at the dealers last week. We heard about the 650 several months back, which means it won't be very long until they announce their next new machine.
