Modding the stock end cap?
#1
I just want opinions on how I modding the stock end cap.
Here is what I did. I puled out the end cap, removed the spark arrestor, cut the stock tail pipes right after the neck down, pulled out the little glass packs, and then reinstalled the spark arrestor.
It seems to have helped make it snappier, and it sounds great, not too loud.
My question is, how do you think this would compare to an end cap, or a slip on. I searched the forums and did not see anyone doing the mod like this. I do not have anyone to run with, and like a big dumby I did not do any timed runs for a comparison.
Thanks!

What i did before i had my yoshimura was strip off everything on the inside of the cap and left the two down tubes still on the endcap that it all so now it is pretty much flowing strait through two tubes. Worked VERY well......Compared to a endcap..well the endcaps are flowing completely strait through and are insanely loud but perform very very well even compared to aftermarket pipes.

TheStir-I am having very good results with using the stock end cap with four 1/2" holes drilled on the spark arrestor plate.I also re-packed the muffler with new packing which seemed to help with flow.I have a Lectron carb/Big Gun CDI/ported intake and a K&N and the performance gains are very good as compared to stock.

IMO I would just get the endcap....that way when I do have enough money for a GOOD slip-on, I can sell the stock muffler and the end cap seperately on eBay and make some money back. If you tear up the stock muffler, it is pretty much useless to somebody else unless they really know what they are looking at, but even if they do know what they are looking at, they won't pay too much because it has been altered. That's just the way I look at it. I am all about saving $$$
