Default Shocked on Shocks?

I had some on my Rail and Fricken Loved Them but my rail had torsion adjustment also for load support, I see mostly Hill Shooters with them now the marvins are VERY light weight and look awesome.
My concerns are that the Marvins and Foxs or either compressed air or gas, no different than most Automotive shocks but with-out the springs for load support, and thats what worries me on doing a major ruff ride through whoops and 6 ft drop-offs will these shocks hold up?
If you have ever blown a shock on a landing of a major jump it could mess you up, at least with the springs and a blown shock you can make it back to camp with-out getting hurt
The other shocks need Gas and or Air for ride Height.
