Outlander 400 vs Kodiak 450
Hello all-
I have a 2004 Yamaha Bruin 350 4x4 and I was going to buy an 06 Kodiak 450. I looked at an 06 Outlander 400 yesterday and now I'm not so sure about the Kodiak. I know the Outy beats the Kodiak in all the tests and wins all the shootouts, but what's the real deal in the real world? Most of the recent posts were about the Outy 800 which is way too big for me (as well as way too expensive!). I only need a trail machine, no racing or hunting.
Any info would be appreciated. These machines are lots of $$ and I want to research as much as possible before I buy. Thanks!!!

The bomb is gonna feel more sporty, and is much quicker, even though the motor is smaller.
The rear irs is much better than the kodis, theres no scub, and it soaks up bumps alot smoother. On hard cornering, or off camber hills, the bomb feels much more stable, The auto locking front diff on the bomb works as well as the diff lock on the kodi, but is totally automatic, it works as needed, and no need to stop to engage it.
The warentee is longer on the bomb....and now that i think back on my decision to buy my kodi..i should have gone bomb, because its clearly the better machine. Yet, it price is a concern, the kodi might be the way to go.
Both will be dependable, and both have resale value.

Go Bomb. I have an Outlander 400 and love it. My wife coincidentally has a Bruin 350. Going from one bike to the other is like night and day. I know your comparing the Kodiak, but the switch from what you have now and to the Outtie will leave you grinnin' from ear to ear. The Outtie is sporty, peppy, and more like racer than a utility quad. The visco lock front end is outstanding. Go test ride them both, it won't take long to see which one you want.

people always ask outy vs this or that...which one?
it is realy hard to tell people cause they just cant understand unless they have been on one...
there is nothing remotely like it ...it is so far ahead....it is so sporty it handles and maneavers like a sport quad but climbs and acts like a ute....i promise you will love it...
let me say this....my DS is getting very lonely in the garage, i cant stay off the outy

Thanks for all your input. I went to load the Bruin on the truck Sat. to take to the Bomby dealer (it's now known as Can-Am for all dirt products) and the darn machine wouldn't start!! It's never done that before! Very frustrating.
Anyway - as sooon as I get it runnning it's getting traded in. I picked out an 06 Outy 400 in camo. Thanks again for your help!

Dirtdame...You have made the right choice. Last year, I purchased a Kodiak 450...and kept it for only 2 months. I have never ridden a more shaky, noisy and all together uncomfortable Quad. Power? Who cares if you are not comfortable? If the Outy 400's ride is anything like its older brother...it will be the one to get!
