I live in Ga. and I wouldn't even wast my time to check it out. If he does have the unit it is more than likely stolen. If it is legit, he could get twice that amount and the buyer still would be getting a steal. A Pawn shop would give you more than he is asking.

nothing is ever gained by skepticism though. What if......
Yes, it could be stolen. You can ask for the VIN then have it checked for stolen at your local police dept. I've done it before and the police are happy to check it.
If the guy flakes when you call, then obviously its a ripoff and all you lost is a phone call. If not, you have a killer deal but the money only changes hands in person after the quad is on the trailer.

The seller is likely one of those Nigerian kids looking to ripoff americans with these types of scams. see the restriction on buyers, they hide as much info as they can. They steal the pics from someone else's website (for instance JMAC650's DS has been seen on eBay at least a dozen times, funny thing was he never sold it....) Then they steal text from a legit ad,lower the price to where it is too good to be true so that someone will bend over backwards to pay such a low price on a nice machine, then when you send the money, you never see it or the non-existant machine. Then the punk buys a couple more PCs with which to fool more Americans. There is no phone number listed, there is so much hidden in this auction it is scary. The onyl items I've seen where a hidden buyer is necessary is something really high priced (bidders that can bid a cool million don't want the world to know) and for porno type of stuff as people like discression in that.

Can anyone give me a 'good' reason why a bidder on an ATV would truely need privacy, to the point that the seller would setup a private auction before even knowing who was bidding? No? The reason is so that other smart eBayers can't send messages and warnings to the poor sap about to win the auction.

If you read, it says one payment option is cash in person. It might be ligit. Cash in person usually means you would make the exchange with the atv right next to you.

The point is that there is no "What If" to this. The seller doesn't have a quad and can never show it to you. Anybody who wants to be clever and try to see it in person is just wasting their time. As others have said, anything other than an offer so send some money towards this nonexistant quat will be met with some kind of stalling lie. Now if you want to wire him or paypal him a couple of hundred to hold it until you can get down there to see it, I'm sure he'll talk to you. Take your money too and maybe even give you some directions as to where you can see his nonexistant quad. Guess what? You'd never see your money again either. That's how these things work - take a high priced item and offer it at a too good to be true price. Almost anyone can be faulted by getting a little greedy. He'll make a couple of hundred for a down payment here, maybe a complete payment of $3,300 - multiply it by several thousand hits on the internet and soon you're talking some real money.

Think about it - A bike like that, if there was any legitimate reason to sell it - Just toss it in the back of your truck and park on the road near any ATV store on any weekend. Put up a sign for $6,500 and it would sell within the hour. So why would a legitimate seller not want to sell his quad for twice what he could ask on Ebay - only one reason.

BTW, if you search enough ATV forum pages, sooner or later you'll find the real owner who posted those pics of that particular Outy 800.

its NOT legit! how it works is you have to be a PRE APPROVED BIDDER which means you have to email this guy and if he approves you he will add you to his pre approved bidders list. when you email him he tells you how he has to sell the bike right away because of some emergency and thats why he is letting it go so cheap. he will go on to tell you that if you want the bike and can send the money today he will end the auction early and sell it outright to you and will even ship it for free but the catch is you have to western union him the money! he will ask you to send it to his local western union office but the catch is he can then pick it up at any western union office in the world. one of my big quads was on ebay several times lited by one of these bozos so I contacted him and that was his plan. I turned him in to ebay and the ad was ynked but it reapeared a few days later under someone elses screen name. lots of people send there money off like this and get screwed.

Bigbird has the method! I always ask if I can pay cash in person on any major ebay purchase. If they hmm and haw, I walk away. If they say they prefer that without batting and eye, I feel pretty good.

What legitimate person wouldn't want cash?
