OO also I forgot to mention but it prob won't be a prob make sure that the ground wire near the battery has a solid ground but to me it sounds like its a loose wire somewhere or a bad connection either that or ur cdi is on its way out.

 

i think its more cdi related....first it did the bad starting and then it was the rev limiter kicking in at like 2000 rpm

 

Your problem with your starter button is a multi function switch. I will bet my lunch on it. You can try taking it apart and spraying some contact cleaner in there, but you should budjet for a new one.
The multi function switch has the start button, headlight switch, and run buttons in it.

I am on my 3rd one now. You can by pass it if you want. Mine was that way for a couple of months until my headlight stopped working as well. If you want to by pass it all you have to do is get a push button switch or kill switch from any atv or bike and wire it into the harness.
