Default cutting rear plastic (help)

my rear plastic is perfect but Im thinking about cutting it and removing my heel protectors to lighten up the bike some. anyone have a good pictures of where it looks best to cut ? Im sure people do it differently but I have never been around anyone else with a ds , at least not anyone with cut fenders and dont want to make it look crappy. anyway any photos would be appreciated. thanks

You've come to the right place. I think I will claim the honor of the first person to cut the DS rear fender way back in 2001. LOL - thats sure to stir up some members.

Ok, the best place to cut the DS plastic is about 1/4" to 1/2" outside of the first ridge line - thats the inside line that runs from the bottom of the fender to pretty much the tail end of the rear fender. Then you'll need to finish off near where your heals are. Some guys just cut right over to the inside. Sorry no pics. Let me know if thats too confusing.

I used a hax saw blade with one of those hax saw blade holders - They are not a full hax saw blade holder, they let the blade stick out of one end. Use tape to mark off your cut pattern. Then follow up with a light sanding to round off the edge. Then remove the tape.
