I had Kelly at KMS do all my work he has extensive knowledg of the ds and a dyno. He will point you in the rite direction and give you solid numbers on what to expect as far as horse power. #602-442-4340

ERBEDS650 as you can tell i dont want my comments to be taken as anything other than helpful information. It does seem that advice is harder to give lately without sides being taken or someone thinking that one builder or parts supplier is being pushed. It is inevitable that there will be different opinions on what someone will need to build a good performing DS but when i am asked i will share what i know without any apologies.I try not to suggest that someone use a particular product or part until i have personal experience with it and that is as it should be.Like it or not HPR continues to prove that they are at the top of the list when it comes to DS performance and until that changes they will get my hard earned money.

Definitely avoid throwing a mish-mosh of cut rate parts together if you actually want performance for your $3k Pick a builder and follow their recommendations on combination. I have seen too many bikes actually go slower by grabbing a set of shelf cams that were on sale on the internet and having a guy down the street do some garage porting with a dremel, lol. There is a lot going on when making a setup of componentry work together to make you faster.
If Dunittilludie only has $3k into that monster of his, I can't imagine a faster DS for that amount of money..............I recommend you get the details from him on his combination.
LOL, there was one guy on this forum a few months ago that bought a 13 or 14:1 piston (nice piston) because it was on a better sale than the 11:1 that he really wanted, then gasketed the bajeebies out of the base and head to lower the compression back down to 11:1............just to save a few bucks.
Lot of funny idea's out there Don't waste time on ideas..........find someone with varifiable results and find out what they did.

Well, since this thread is taking a turn in such a direction. I will also point out that we do have stock bore builds with all "off-the-shelf" parts making in the 70hp range and is as economical as you can get. Yeah even with a $3000 budget. Take if for what its worth.

Ron as you have seen firsthand my build works very well and i really think that my head porting is a huge factor.I think that for the money i spent with a heavy DS i have about as much perfromance as i can get.I am hoping that my Vortex CDI and some dyno tuning will give me just a little more then i will be finished with my tweaking.Of course i am already planning my next DS and that will cost more than my stock bore.

Thanks for all the input. I will do some looking and come back. I prefer high CR and a bike with good mid range/great top end if that can be had on a DS that is where I'll be headed. More for duning and love to drag uphill and flat so . . .

I know there are several companies and shops that like to use the 105mm kit's using a new sleeve rather than a whole new jug. Is there any real downside to this other than losing the benefit of the nikasil(sp?) coating that the factory and aftermarket jugs have? Seems to me it would be an inexpensive way to go big bore . . . Are they prone to failure or head gasket issues? Unless there is a big drawback or weekness it seems this would be a great way to go.
Anyone here running this configuration with good results?
Thanks again!
Dave
