DS Day's 2007 - Location

Mark what you lined out as a possible scenario for a DS days host for lack of a better word is a little intimidating to me as well.I would be happy to do what i could to help and show people around but i would not want to be responsible for trophies, rules, permits if needed or anything other than a local who can show everyone around and maybe help line up some camping spots. No big problem i just wanted to let you know where i stand. You can leave me down as a helpful volunteer if DS days is held here but thats about a far as i would want to go.

I think what I'll do to accomidate Tracy and Gregg, I'll simply leave an organizer for the places that nobody has requested that. That way, people can choose that area and just show up. Of course, someone will have to decide on a date. But I suppose everyone can hash that out later. The more I think about this, the more I think there needs to be some sort of organizer. But I'll put the vote up anyway you all want me to.

Well Im glad we had this discussion to make it clear and I hope it is now. I thought I made it clear, but apparently not - Im very sorry for that. Anybody that wants to be an organizer, and gets voted, can choose however they want it to be done. The reason why I mentioned the possible list of other things, like trophies, is because 2 of the DS Days attendies (who I will not mention) requested quite empatically to me, that they wanted a much more structured event. I was simply pointing out whats been done in the past, but also mentioned that in no way that it had to be that way in the future. I think if you re-read my post, I mentioned that. Apparently the fear of that responsibility was too glaring for the rest of the post! LOL . But I respect very much your concern. If Oregon is chosen, people will, at minumum, probably ask you where to camp, and on what date the 'mutual gathering' will be. The people that want a race event will simply not expect one, and plan accordingly.
Does that make sence?
I also think its a good thing to set everyone's expectations now. By letting everyone know what you will do and not do, is simply part of the process.
I dont know if you remember, but the very first 4 stroke was terrible from a racer standpoint. It was billed as a racing event, with full starters. The BLM did the same number by shutting that down - I got some great pics of that! LOL. Anyways, I loved the event, because I am a lot like you. I go and meet friends and we have a nice ride. But I can promise you that not everyone is like that. Setting the expectations of what the event will be like is huge. I think you've done that if you are voted upon. I doubt anybody that goes will be dissapointed - I know I wont. There are some VERY savy people in the group that were talking about starting lights, and more - Thats thier thing. And they are happy to do it that way. Again, they are setting the expectations of what it will be like.
So, I hope you dont feel pressured to have it a certain way. You should not. If you get voted in, you run it any way you want - and if you need help, feel free to call on me or anyone else you need help from. Im sure they will do what you ask them to do.
Well, I think I've typed enough now so that everyone knows what to expect - which is no expectations at all!
I've got to study for a test - you guys PM me if you have any more questions.

Well you can leave me on the list I guess as long as everyone completely understands that I'm not putting the whole thing on and that I am just helping by saving space for everyone and showing new comers around. I will also arrange a bigger and better pot luck but I am not running races and am not going to be responsible should someone get hurt. I do know every nook and cranny at sand mountain and can plan maybe 5 or 6 trips ranging from easy whole family rides to ***** to the walls advanced riders only rides. I know where there is an abandoned gold mine within riding distance that you can actually walk into about 100 yards or so and also can lead to the millitary bombing range where there is a blown up , shot to pieces 1950s millitary bus that has been used for target practice. sand mountain has one of the most fun bowls you will ever find with near vertical walls. we can ride out to the pony express station for a minute which was burried by the sand and lost for around 100 years and walk through its remains. I have been to dumont, glamis, idaho, and now utah and can tell you without a doubt that sand mountain nv's race hill is by far the best. there are NO rocks and there will be near constant racing on 3 seperate faces at the same time. there is also a beginers little dune area with all rounded small dunes for beginers to get used to things and a fairly safe little kids track right in the middle of camp for the little guys to enjoy. its right in the middle of the western united states which makes it the most fair for all as the drive is concerned. its my first choice but I will most likely attend no matter where everyone decides to have it. I would love to do it you can put me down for Winnemucca NV. I don't care when Labor day is fine. Everyone can expect to have fun. If you want to race flat it is close not really flat though. If you want a hill you will have to dune to it. But it is fun. I will make sure there is at least some vault toilets if we go here just because they have no facilities here. You will need to fill up with water on your way here. The town of Winnemucca is not far away so you won't have a problem if you forget something. If you want trophies than it is up to you to bring them. If you want shirts I am sure we can get My good friend on here to make them for us to sell. If you just want to dune we can definately show you around. If you don't think this place is for you than don't vote for it. I will not get my feelings hurt. It is just another suggestion.
Is that good for everyone? How was that Marky?

Mark i will say that if Oregon is chosen that i will do all that i can to help make things run smooth. My thoughts would be that the drag racing could and should be done in a way that does not look organized at all so that the law does not get involved but that could all be determined if and when Oregon is made the choice.I for one appreciate the efort that you are putting out to get this going and as i said i will do what i can to help.

ODP. I am trully impressed with your knowledge of what it takes to put on an event like this . I never would have considered all the details you uncoverd here. you sound like a very organized person who is good at keeping all his ducks in a row. In my opinion you would be the the obvious 1st choice for event organizer WHER EVER the event is held. I suggest that we all give credit where credit is due and put the most capable person in charge of DS days 07 where ever its held . ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF MARKY RUNNING NEXT YEARS DS DAYS WHERE EVER IT MIGHT BE SAY I!!

Gregg, you are on record now by stating what you will and wont do. So, if they are dissapointed, they have only to blame themselves for not reading your post. This is very good!

Well thank you, but as the POLLSTER, that would not be very credible of me to enter a vote like that. We have some great people that have volunteered to do this. I believe they should be given the chance to show us what they would like in a gathering such as this. Once a person is chosen, if asked, I will more than be happy to help out. And you know I will, if asked.
