Regards of reliability / durability I don't think you'd go wrong with either of the two.

Regards of speed, I'm told the Outty 400 does 55, which is the same speed as my SP500EFI, so odds are the outty is faster than the SP450.

Not sure of any problems on each, however, I've heard that if you don't like to get covered in mud/dirt while riding in wet conditions .. stay clear of the outty.

I've never riden with a pol 450 but I have an '06 outlander Max (two seater) XT with 3,000 km on it in the last year. As for top end, my speedo said 95km/h (59mph) with two of us on it; it did take awhile to get to that speed though. Your totally right on the mud thing though, you will get covered, and for us it did get old so we put on the fender extention kit which has excellent protection.

For reliability, it's been great, oil changes and at about 2,700km I had the carb and valves ajusted and thats it.

I have only had two drag races on this machine ('06 AC 400 & '03 Honda 450ES) and I beat them both -- and I had my wife on the back as well, but I can't say if it's faster than the pol 450 or not.

I never found this to be a problem..not that I ride in mud much but when I have it seems to have protected me fairly well.

the 400 outty is a great little bike but it is still carbed, for $800 more you can step to the 500 vtwin injected and it comes with all the same features as the 650 and 800 except that it is still a strut front end. it will still get up and run over 65 as well. we have found that the sp700 has more power off the start but in about 800ft the outty 500 will run it down and be about 1 1/2 bike lengths ahead. its power is more in the mid to high range. as far as the sp 450 goes i dont know, but just a guess i would say that the 400 would mostlikey win in a drag race.

But on the same note the 400 will out run a 650 honda hands down but as far as simple and easy to maintain id go with the injected 500 as well
