If your going to go that far why not a gixxer or a busa? You must be hardcore rotax!

I was thinking the same thing a bike motor would be eaisier to swap than a auto drive ute/sled motor. Plus a 800 crate motor is over 5 k wholesale price. I would think a motor out of a wreked Busa would come out a little cheaper too.

Or just get a Renegade and pull the front diff and drive out of it.

It's not that simple because like the Outlander the diff housing is a structural piece. If you keep it there then you need to have the openings welded shut.

Thats right, I think Epic's Baja rig was still sporting the housing.

The first thing i thought when i see this post was....if your going to spend that much time...putting a BELT driven 800 twin that makes 50's hp....why not put a 600 or 800 street bike engine in it thats making 110-140hp? that isnt belt driven and thats chain driven...allot easier.

the only thing i would put a rotax 800 in would be a kfx700,

arent the bike engines also twins? i dont think they will be much easier to fit in there plus they're heavier, something a ds doestn want.

how come a 600 bike engine has double the power of a rotax 800, the 800 must be really downtuned. how heavy is a dsBUSA? around 600lbs? i would not jump a quad that heavy, too dangerous. arent those bikes efi too? efi would be really nice on the ds

Well it has less resistance, two wheels vs. four. gearing, manual vs. CVT etc.....Look how much some of these guys are pumping up these DS650's so you could just imagine how much more potential is in that 800 engine but if BRP. I flirted with WOT the other day on my 800 on a long stretch of levee, I didn't quite get there and probably could have but good grief, just felt like ONE bad dip or bump could sent me skyward, by contrast, my Honda 750 V-twin I had up to 100 on a long stretch of paved road and there is a world of difference in the feel and feeling of control at that speed.
