Stock Rebuild
#1
Hey guys, pretty sure I blew my stock motor and now I have to rebuild it. I'm going to keep this one stock still, assuming the cylinder is still in specs. Where is the cheapest place to get stock parts and what should I be going with? How much is going to be you think?
A poor college kid needs some advice/help..... thanks guys!

all the guys on here r real good with that, def watch the my garage thread, ebay is good, lots of parts goin on there, make sure u check the ebay stores when u do a search for the "DS650" and "DS 650" - space. BikeBandit.com has a blueprint of the whole DS650, from the steering system to the engine, every nut and bolt, plus u can order the parts, good luck!

True enough...
I have been having trouble starting it for quite some time, but it would still start. On my last trip home, I attempted to start it and while I did so, white smoke came pouring out of the exhaust as well as a radiator hose blew off of the motor. I superpressurized the water side of the engine and am pretty sure I roasted the piston, based off of the smell of the plugs.

To me it sounds like a head gasket. A gas anti-freeze mix is hard to start, then you pressurise the cooling system with combustion chamber pressure, anti-freeeze burns white. Might be a 75 dollar fix if you do it yourself.

Check your clearances with your cam lobes 180 out from the buckets, don't know what specs are on stockers. With your head off put spark plugs back in turn it upside down and fill the combustion chamber with thinner or gas to see if your valves are sealed if they aren't you'll have fluid in your intake or exhaust tracks pretty quickly which means you might need a valve job.
