I LOVE my 800 as you know.

The IRS and weight will not allow you to handle it like a sport machine. On your DS or like my buddies YFZ having the IRS you can cook, hit the brakes and slide pretty well but with the Outlander/Renegade you really have to take it easy, the tires and better suspension on the Renegade may help but there are certain situation where a sport quad would definately be easier to handle and less work.....and visa versa, the Outlander/Renegade will encounter situations that are much easier to ride over/through then a sport quad, water/mud/rocks.....I guess it all depends on the type of riding you will be doing the most of. Personally I like river/creek crossings, mountain climbing, forest trails and fire roads, don't care much for rock crawling or mud baths.
A few weeks ago my buddy and I put in a good 5 hr ride, just a few quick breaks. I'll be honest, I was a little tired but was quite surprised how sore I was...we rode a mixture of easy to intermediate trails and a few dirt roads, a few trails were probably motorcycle only but we managed to squeeze through. I was quite sore the next day and this concerned me so I've been hitting the weight bench pretty good for a few weeks now, this ride was probably the hardest/longest overall one day riding we've done...These machines do take some work and will wear you down a bit if you push it for a full day, if you are pretty much taking it easy then no problem but I was hitting trails pretty hard and near the end of the day it was late and I was pushing it pretty hard cause I wanted to get back to the vehicle and eat and rest.
