Default Engine tear down DS650??

Budget:2500$

I was wondering about how many hours would it take to pull a motor out of a DS650, split the case and replace all the engine gaskets. My DS is spiting oil quite bad.

With a 2500$ budget what should i do while the engine is out and split?
(crank bearings are solid)

Would a Ron Woods Stage 2 kit a good idea, is it worth it for the money? And would it drop my reliability?

Thanks guys

A weekend is plenty of time if you have all of your parts on hand. be sure to get a service manual it is VERY helpful if this is your first time. bikebandit.com has all of your oem parts and they have exploded views of the motor so you can get just the parts you need. as far as performance... yes the machine will be faster, reliability is a lways an issue with performance... can you fix it when it breaks & how much will it cost? just my 2 cents.

Spitting quite a bit of oil???

Where is the oil coming from? Starter housing? (If so, no reason to tear apart your engine. . . it isn't going to help.

I like the RW Stage 2 kit (or similar by another builder.) The biggest reliability issue you'll have to deal with will be the valve springs. You'll have to put new valve springs in every couple years (or every year if you go to the real aggressive cams.)

What are you looking for power wise and what are you willing to do maint. wise.

I'ld suggest keep her as stock as possible. I'ld rather ride than work on my bikes.

Tranny case???

Where?

Is it coming out of the countersprocket? No need to split the cases if it is. Get a self tapping screw and drive that sucker into the bearing seal. Once it is in about 1/2 way get your cat's claw out and pull that sucker out. Push the new one in from the outside and your golden. I've done one before and worked like a champ. I'ld get two bearing seals though. First one didn't go in quiet straight so, I ended up pulling it out and putting a 2nd new one in. Unfortunately, had to drive across town to get a second seal.
