Default math quiz......

ok... i want to adj. my valves a bit closer after a good break in on my ds 650.. HRP 3 cam, and shim under kit and springs, 14 to1 comp etc....
the shims they sent with the kit are 2.05mm... my intakes are at .015 and exhaust are at .013 and .016... so, thay dont make shims small
enough so i guess i have to have some machined down... my questin is, 2.05mm = .0805 thou of an inch , so to get down to around .007 intake and .009
exhaust i would need a 2.24mm shim for the intake and a 2.21mm shim for the .016 exhaust and a 2.14mm shim for the .013 exhaust right ??????
any math gods out there who can tell me if this is right?????
thanx guys.......

Look up "Convert" and download the program. Go to the "distance" tab.

2.05mm = 0.08070842
2.21mm = 0.08700761
2.24mm = 0.08818871
2.14mm = 0.08425171

You have .015 (with .0807 shim) you need .007 (so wouldn't you need .0807-.008 = .0727???)

Go down to your local hardware store and get a sharpening stone for a knife. Get some knife-oil too and go to work. You should be able to take off enough material from the shims to make them work.

I'm not sure at what clearance level you need to look into new valve seats. You may want to talk to a pro on that.

So you have the 2.05 mm shims in, and need to increase your gap. There are no smaller ones then that thickness, and I would be afraid to machine down more for clearence. I could be wrong, but I would think there is a smallest available for a reason. Sounds like the valves need to be reset.

Default math quiz......

How would you adjust something that accurately, like 0.1mm Do you have special tools for that? Can the human eye even tell the difference between 0.1mm and 0.2mm?

Default math quiz......

DO NOT grind the shims, your problem is your valve height!!
