Gearing change for Hauler Extremes?
I was running 15X42 on my 22x11x10 Sand Stars but now will be running the double buff 22x11x10 8 paddle haulers extremes. I have never ridden on straight paddles and wanted to know how much it affects your gearing for launching, if at all compared to the Sand Stars. I do 2nd gear launches and it was just a littel under geared with the 15x42 and Sand Stars for my 200lb butt.
Thanks,
Scott

If you felt it was under geared with the sand stars then you'll definately notice it more with the haulers.... How much you need to change I don't know. My bike with haulers once you're rolling at all is loaded similar to how it would be on pavement.... I went down one and up two on mine and I'm 330lbs! LMAO
Hope that helps.

15,42 is pretty short gearing. Im not familar with you build but at your weight (200lbs) I would say 15,40. would be a bit better. The haulers are going to give you a ton more bite instead of blowing the tires off. More traction is going to keep your rpms down longer. Play with you air pressure also 3 to 4 pounds. Its amazing what you can get out of adjusting the PSI. I would even try the stock gearing 16 40 and see what happens. Just my .02

Thanks,
I have a slip on, Big Gun CDI, NoToil with no airbox and a TM45 with ported intake. I felt the 15 42 was short, too short for the Sand Stars, I had zero bog off the line and could blow the tire too easy. My 42 is aluminum, so I will start out with a 16x42 set up with the haulers. I may get a 17 tooth before I go to the sand again.
For paddles does 3psi give more bite than 4psi?
azdave, are you saying that the haulers take less power once you are up and running? Is that why most people say you get a few lengths going with the haulers? Not only the bite out of the hole, but all the way through the gears?

I tried going 16/42 but did not have enough chain with the stock chain length. Remember one tooth on the front is about the same as two on the rear. Going from 15/42 to 17/42 is huge!
Lower PSI typically equals more bite with any tire.......
At equal pressure your hauler will have more bite off the line due to the straight paddle design. I run about 3lbs in mine. They should also have less drag at higher speed since they are lighter than the Stars.

I see what you mean about going to the 17, I think it would be too high. I'm going to see if the 16 will fit on mine, and then take my 15 along in case I'm geared to high with the 16. The 16/42 should be about like a 15/40 which a lot of people are running.

17 42 will be pretty tall. I run 17 40 but Im on a 730, race head and juice. Im going to guess your going to like the 15 40, I would still try 16 40. Remember to play with the pressure and make sure its equal. The more PSI the more wheel spin you will get. Less equals more traction. Im thinking your first hard launch on 15 40 at 3lbs of pressure is going to have you looking at the sky!
