buying a bike how can i tell if its stolen

found a good deal on a 01 ds 650 but it looks like a 05 model it has a shorter swing and all black plastics but all the numbers match up how can i tell if its stolen thanks.

I had the same prolem with a bike Ifyou want to check on it you have to take the bike to the police station and they will run the numbers while you are there they will not do it over the phone. At least not here in phoenix
