If you have slow trials it is ok, it depends on the performace you expect to have. It's cheap but part of that is due to all the steel construction (haven't these guys heard of aluminum).

I bought one for the wife. While it has been extremely reiliable, it's terribly disappointing in the performance department.

Worse, there are no aftermarket parts made specifically for it. (in the US)

The wife wanted something sporty (easier to turn) and a full auto. This seemed like it would fit the bill. The quick ride around the dealer lot seemed to show it had enough power, but out on a trail, I would seriously doubt its ability climb a moderate hill.

If Can am, or any of the aftermarket companies would be so kind as to make something to boost the performance, I would consider keeping it. As it stands now, I'm looking for something else. Possibly Kymco 300 Mongoose, or just buying a 06 Trail Blazer to replace her old one.

Ya they pretty much suck........ but they're cheap

get a trailblazer and put 1000$ into it and lower it and you got yourself a sweet fast ride

(In canada, the TB is 1400$ cheaper than the 250ex or the z250 so you could possibly spend that 1400$ to boost it to 30+ horsepower, and lower it to improve handling.)

Down here, they're about the same price. Just happened across our 06 ds. Guy bought it and a Wolverine. Rode them once and decided he wanted a Harley instead. So I got it for 2600. Best I could get on an 07 ds was 3400, and on the Blazer, he was at 3400 and adding.

All this came about when the 03 Blazer lost reverse. Put in the shop about 6 weeks before a ride. Was told it would be ready, several times. Well a week before the ride, they call and say it would take a week to get the parts. Made me mad enough to go buy something new. Was trying to get her away from the 2 stroke, she really doesn't wind it out enough like it should be.

The plan (mine anyway) was to get her something new, then start adding stuff to the Blazer.

She's not a speed freak, so the ds would have been fine, if it just had a little guts to it. And I'll take it out for a spin every now and then, just for the heck of it.

Picked up my sons new ds250 on saturday, we think this machine is the bomb. in the trails it does not matter who rides it the ds ends up in front, the ds is very predictable the power is easy to control, it tracks well at speed and overall a very fun machine to ride. I have raced and rode many machines in my life, I started riding at 12 and i am 50 yrs old now and while this ds does not have the top speed of my LT250z it is a great well rounded machine that is quick and nimble in the bush despite its weight.
