Us Indiana boys have an annual tradition called FlatlanderFest every year, alternating back and forth between idaho and utah each year. I cannot imagine ever going a year without true bowl riding, and anybody that has never been to utah or idaho and never plans to go is missing the most amazing ride of their life. If you have not been to idaho, utah, or california, then you have never bowl ridin, and bowl riding is the absolute ultimate!! Michigan and Oklahoma are fine and dandy, but nothing I mean nothing like big dunes.
The DS is purpose built for long big dune rides, it is where it shines, and it seems totally fitting that the "big" DS Days be held at a location that provides such riding. But yes indeed it is too far a lot of people to be able to go. This is why us Eastern guys are now having the annual East Coast DS Days. And a Midwest DS Days is equally as recognizable, and I am all for it taking place. I do not think that having either of these extra DS events would put any kind of damper on the attendance of the "big" DS Days out west, as the folks who would attend a Midwest DS Days probably aren't going to the "big" ride anyway.
But there is no way the western guys are gonna want to come to a Midwest days, much less an East Coast event, because they know what they have out there and they know we aint got it and I don't blame them because I ride their dunes every year too and they are the ultimate - especially Idaho bowls!!!!!!!!!!!! (which has yet to host the DS Days, what a shame!)
So anyway, if there is a Midwest DS Days decided on, my vote would be Little Sahara Oklahoma, cause I am a duner.
And if and when a time and place is decided on, I woul dbe happy to host a webpage for it, just as I do for the other two DS Days, and add albums in the DS Days gallery for the Midwest DS Days. The offer is extended, it is my pleasure, just let me know.

That is why it is so hard for us to justify the extra cash to go further East. Except to meet more great people. I agree with Hightower and if anyone can ever make it to West coast DS Days or the Flatlander trips they are well worth it. This year will be our first trip with the flatlanders and I can't wait to meet up with all of them.
Great point also.

As far as the Midwest goes. The three biggest and best sand locations are Headworks in Nebraska, Little Sahara in Oklahoma, and St. Joe in Missouri. Little Sahara would have the best dune riding, St Joe would probably have the best trail riding and probably the biggest park over all. Headworks would have the best racing area. Ive rod at all three and they are all very fun places to go.

I voted on On-Dunes for St. Anthony's for the West Coast DS Days. I like the fact that it has huge dunes and bowls and Thunder Mountain is right outside the BLM camping area. Thunder Mountain is a fine race hill for those of us that like to do that sort of thing!
St. A's is about a 14 hour drive for me......one way.
I would be Ok with Sand Mountain Utah or Sand Mountain Nevada as well but St A's gets my vote.

Marky. . . you out there? Hope things are going well for you Brother.
IMO:
DS Day's should be Labor Day Weekend.
DS Day's should be somewhere where there is a big hill - especially with all the "Conversions" showing up.
Has the decision been made on where the Four Stroke Challenge race will be for that time of year? Is it going to be on Labor Day Weekend? If so, my suggestion would be to piggy-back DS Day's and the race. (Hope it is at Sand Mt., NV myself)

as you probably know I'm pretty "neutral" on the subject but... I wouldnt mind saint anthonys at all . only been there once and my wife was sick in the motorhome and "SHE" didnt get to see a thing LOL. wouldnt mind riding out and exploring that ice cave again too. that was cool. its 800 miles for me so it would be a cabover camper trip again(to far for the bus at 5mpg) but I would be willing. I'm for laborday as well. its one of the few weekends I get off! but like I said neutral, thats me...

Duneme, guess we were typing at the same time. the 4 stroke challenge thing would be cool , speaking from a neutral point of view and yes nevada would be fine with me . if you guys choose nevada the bus it is! not that it matters because I'm real .... neutral
