I've read the posts on how to setup the front shocks, and from what I understand you set them up with 2-3" of sag with the rider on the bike. In trying to set mine up like this the springs are almost as long as they can be, and when I push down on the front of the bike it has only about three inches of travel before it bottoms out. To me this seems to be too soft, but when I tighten up the springs the bike doesn't sag with me on it. My weight is 250# so I don't think that's the issue. Also on body of the shock towards the top is a allen headed adjustment screw, is that to adjust the valving?

Those shocks are kinda funny. Try setting them by jacking up the bike and take all the slack out with the nut. By slack I mean just run the nut down so the spring wont move around when the front end comes up. Don't tighten the nut so far down that you need a wrench to do it. Just snug it up to the spring while the front of the bike is jacked up and the front wheels are in the air. Give that a try and see what you think.
Also that screw is so you can refill them if needed. Those shocks are rebuildable.
