Default Stock Filter vs. K&N

Ok, I called my local dealership today looking for an airfilter. First of all they have about 5 DS in the showroom yet still didn't have the first airfilter or foam pre filter in stock...how does that work???
Secondly, the price they quoted me for the stock filter was 77.83 and the foam cover is 13.77! WTF? How can they justify that with a semi-disposable filter? Anyway, with K&N getting the same (according to earlier post from MISTERHP) if not better airflow as the stock...at a fraction of my "quoted" price, it just doesn't make sense for anyone to buy the stock...same with batteries....and tires...and lots of other stuff for the DS. Seems like they would eventually drop some prices and get ppl. to buy a little more of their stuff? I guess they make enough on the initial sale that they don't need to sell parts anymore.
Just my 2 cents...any other opinions? Or inside info.?

THANK GOD ITS RUNNIN' GREAT!!!!! NEW PICTURES TO COME SOON!

Go and order a twin air or uni FOAM filter, you can clean and OIL and reuse as many times as you need. K&N are for racers, not as effective after 10 cleanings, says so right on there web site.

my buddy uses twin air on his Honda 450 and loves them! He races gncc and still uses them! I might try them later, but for now I am gonna get a K&N, quiker and easier for me to acuier in this po dunk town I live in. Do you have any links for the twin air? I have only seen them advertised for the hondas and yamis. Thanks for you input.

i have a twin- air power flow kit for my ds... there great...
you get the filter, filter cage, billit aluminum base that fits
into the rubber snorkel, and a nice attatching bolt and clamps.. cant go wrong....
get some no-toil foam filter oil and cleaner and your set......
chaparral motorsports has them for 64.99 for the kit and 29.99 for a replacment filter....
its a good deal rockymountain sells the same kit for 99.99.............

Be careful when using the K&N because it will allow extra dirt particles to pass through so to help it out a little bit I would recommend getting an outerwear to put around the filter...I run a K&N on my ds and haven't had any problems, but I will not run one on my 450r so I don't grenade my engine...Make sure you keep it clean and oil it up real good when putting the filter back in...If you want to get a little extra power take the lid off of the airbox and rejet the carb and you should see a difference...Here is another option other then the open airbox.
