Default broken ds 650

ok i got my first quad, unfortunatly i bought someone elses broken stuff, so heres the deal, it starts, it runs ( after many hours of work so far) but it dont want to idle, it runs great when u give it gas, but when its ideling it wants to pop out of the intake, so i reshimmed it got that al correct put it all back togather and it does the same thing as when i took it apart, it also cherries the exhaust, SO THE PROBLEMS ARE IT POPS OUTTA THE INTAKE AT IDLE AND THE EXHAUST IS CHERRING RED , Like ive said ive already reshimmed it, the timing is good and the carbs been cleaned out so much u can eat off of it , and the plugs are white when u check em, the 2 that were wrong when i shimmed it was the intake shims, someone pleasae tell whats wrong with this thing im lost.

Welcome to the forums...Yea you are definately running lean due to a cherry red exhaust and the plugs should not be white which is also an indication of a lean mixture...Do you currently have any mods done to the bike such as an exhuast, new airfilter, and an open airbox?...Because if so you will need to rejet and if you need help just let me know and I or someone else can steer you toward the right direction.

um yea i have a k&n air filter on it but thats it, it was on it when i bought it, and the bike sat for 18 months outside b4 i got it, the carb was so nasty, but the compression is good it holds at 128 or so, but what do u recomend, u think i need to change the carb jet, i domnnt know whats in it now but i can find out, and do u think the problem is inside of the head or is that going way too far? Thnx for the replies, i need all the help i can get

Check the rubber carb boot between the carb and intake.I didnt tighten the screws tight enough
one time and it was falling off and sucking air.

The carb if it is stock should have a 165 main in it so I would buy a few different larger jets and put them in seeing if that makes any difference and you might have an aftermarket endcap on the stock exhaust...When you get the new jets try messing with the adjuster screw to get the quad dialed in so it won't bog down...Other things that have caused the ds to bog down which is stupid but easy to fix is the intake boot like mentioned or there is a ventline that is about a mile long under the plastics and it is connected to the top of the gas tank and it tends to get kinked and it builds up pressure in the tank and will make it bog down...It sounds dumb, but this could also be part of your problem...If you are running lean which you are I would say mess with the jets and the carb and after you get that tuned in and if it is still causing the same problem check the other stuff I listed and let me know how you make out.
