check valves
#1
I have a loud knocking noise coming for the topend of my motor, it seems the cam/valve area is being starved of oil? is there a check valve that I should look for that might have gone bad? at first it was only making it the first few seconds of start up, but now its not going away! anyone have any advice?
thanks

Well I am guessing you have a ds?...I would say that one of the oil galleys wasn't able to get oil up to the valves or maybe one of them is out of whach...I personally would check the valves and make sure it isn't your chain from the cam making this noise and figure out what the culprit making the noise is.

Are you guessing or are you sure that it is not getting enough oil? These DS motors are notoriously noisy and cause alot of worry for those that are new to them. The motors make strange noises, back by the chain roller gets a bunch of folks up in arms thinking their stuff is falling apart. All that noise is just the good old reliable DS motor letting you know that it's running fine. In most cases. If you ride without a helmet it gets insane the things that you think are going wrong. Once you put a helmet on and get rid of the stock exhaust it will seem like the kitten is purring.
My suggestion is an HPR endcap to drowned out some serious noise, followed with a well fitting helmet and the best MP3 player you can find, loaded with a little bit of Metal Church, Saxon, Motorhead, Black Label Society, and a dash of Iron Maiden thrown in for good measure. Hell, if my body wasn't whipping in the wind like Superman's cape from the power these beast put out, I wouldn't even know the motor was running with all of those suggestions.

I've owned it for 5 years now its been down for the last 2, just rebuilt it!
anyways I had my good friend that does most of the work to it listen to it, and he says it sounds like when his old 250r use to wear out counter balance bearings. does this sound like a possibilty? is a loud knocking sound, kinda sounds like my old ATK/Cannondale.
