Default ds250 gearing

I ordered a 18 tooth front sprocket for my sons DS250 , Do you think I should try to lighten the weights in the clutch to let it rev a little longer before it closes up so that it stays in a lower ratio in the trails and only revs out on the faster trails and roads. I'm worried he will run out of steam on some of the bigger hills with it on

?????? why an 18tooth? it has trouble pulling the stock gearing (15tooth?) Have you even ever bounced off the rev limit while going on a paved road at a 5degree downhill slope? I dont think i have- maybe with a pipe, filter, and cam i could

I really dont know how cvt's work, but i thought they didnt change the gearing ratio.... i thought they just were disengaged at idlespeed (or below the engagement speed) and that they started gripping slightly (but slipping a lot) when it engaged, and gripping more and slipping less as rpms climbed??
