I'm running a Stage II on my DS with that same carb and it runs like a champ. It starts great in cold weather too.

I think what you are experiencing is the loss of velocity that is typical with larger bore carbs. I believe the woods carb is a 45mm, and is a good carb from what I have read, some of the newer designs from carb manufactures are tapered ie. (Lectron etc.)the intake side is larger than the exit side, so you have the benefit of more air flow on the intake and higher relative velocity on the exit side. This give you faster air/fuel delivery = more power. What is the air intake configuration you are running? stock air box? or K&N clamp onto carb? -the more air you can get to the carb the better off you'll be.

you might have a jetting issue - try adjusting the
jet needle up one knotch if that does not help, go the other way one knotch.
