14t or 15t front sprocket?
The 14 tooth will make you very quick off the line but you will go through the gears real fast. I had one on mine cause 2nd gear was screwed up so I could run in 3rd all the time and when duning fast I was always in 4th. I had the same sprocket on for DSDays in Utah and was keeping up with Dragon until about half hill then he would drive around me.

Jason, with where and how you ride the best set up for you will be 15/42. 14t is way too low and will have you revving pretty high the majority of the time. 15/40 is better than stock for your area but after having ridden a 15/42 combo I am sold. I just can't find an affordable 42t rear sprocket yet.

14t or 15t front sprocket?
I just got back from Sand Mt with my 15x42 and it is a big improvement over teh 15X40 I was running. The thing that worries me about the 14 tooth is how close the chain gets to the swingarm pivot.
Ace, are you at 520 or 530? I doubt that you will find anyting much cheap in a 530 than from the link I put in your post on the garage thread.

14t or 15t front sprocket?
I have been runnning 14T front for several years, there are no problems associated with it as long as you be certain that the motor mount bolt head is on the chain side, and the nut side is on the opposite, which is what Sandman is refering to. some DS's have it one way, some another, if the nut is on the chain side then the excess threads sticking out past the nut will rub the chain.
I agree, 15/42 is better than 14/40 for dunes IMO, but I also really like the low 1st and 2nd gear on super technical woods trails I ride.
I actually ran 14/41 for a good while, pulling choke cherry and others in a strong 3rd gear, but places I needed to go to 2nd had me overeving to the moon. I plan to go back to 15/42, cause I still have to rev too high with the 14/40 when pulling hills in 2nd like the fingers at sand mt. utah, and 3rd is reving a little high in the valley.
alot of it is where you ride, and how much you weigh..
