Web shim under ?
#1
I just bought some web 109's and the Web shim under conversion.
Just to double check, the Web shim unders use 13mm shims, correct?
I am gonna buy a shim kit, but what is the average size shim most of you are running with shim unders? The shim kit comes with 2.30 - 3.10 shims, but if the average is 2.10 then I will pick up some smaller shims as well.
I can not find anywhere here that carries 13mm shims. There is no Kawi dealer here. So, I need to make sure I have everything I will need while I am back in the US for Christmas.
Thanks,
Chris

there are several things that will effect shim thickness, making everybody's different. valve wear, cam journal wear, and cam base circle diameters to name a few.
when I installed the web shim under kit 6 years ago, my motor had only 50 hours on it, hardly any wear on anything, bu tmy RWR cams I installed at the same time had a base circle several thou bigger than the stock cams, and also the tappets that came in my web kit had a top that was a few thou thicker than the factory bomb tappets, and these two things combined made the thinnest shim made by anybody too thick and I had to have shims custom ground at a machine shop. not a big deal at all - it only cost $10, which was cheaper than buying new shims. some people told me that you can't do this, that they are case hardened and it will make them wear, but several years later and several hundred hours o fmotor later and my valve gap was still the same, so it apparently is perfectly fine to do and I know others that have done it many times.
last year, I installed new valves, hand lapped them to the seats, and put same cams and web shim under kit back in, and once again had to have shims custom ground, still no biggie.
Since you are using Web cams, I would imagine you are gonna be less likely to have the same problem I had, but if you do, fear not, just call a local machine shop.

Thanks for the info/tip Hightower.
Ya, that is the shim kit I bought Bill. Although that one is a bit more expensive than the one i bought. Might buy some of the smaller shims just to have.
Thanks guys!
