Congratulations on your purchase
I purchased my 2000 ds650 a couple years ago...I'm no expert but do make sure you find the info you need to do it correctly
there is an oil reservoir under the headlight area and there is a screen that needs to be cleaned
the 2000 year oil filter is different (shorter) than later years
I'm Sure someone on here will help out soon..If not I'll grab my book (at a friends house with my DS) and scan a couple pages for you regarding this so I can e-mail them to you
I'll watch the thread to see if you get the expert help
Good luck and have fun!

DS 650 HELP ASAP
If the bike has been sitting for a few years I would change the oil before I do anything. You need to drain the oil from the oil tank in the front of your bike and also take out the nipple next to the drain plug and clean the screen that is attached to it also you need to drain it from the bottom of the motor and change the oil filter then I would clean the carb and drain the gas tank and clean the pit **** valve and make sure it flows freely and install a in line fuel filter also before turning over the motor I would squirt a few shots of oil in the cylinder and leave the spark plug out and turn it over a few times. It might smoke for a few seconds when you start it but it is cheap insurance also when you put oil back into it fill the oil tank and then turn the motor over with the spark plug removed until you have oil pumping out of yor head oil galley it is a 10MM bolt on the side of your cylinder head you should get a book or have someone send you a pic of where it is at I dont have any. This will insure that you are getting oil to the top of your cylinder and that your oil pump is not cavitating. After you start the motor only run it for a few seconds and recheck your oil stick becouse the oil that was in the tank will now be pumped into the motor refill to the full mark and repeat a few times until your oil is full on your dipstick and your motor has run for a few minutes. Good Luck and I hope this helps.
