DS450 as a Dune Machine?
Well, I believe now we are at an apex in the world of the 450's. They are all very close in performance so now it will likely be that in time, all will have alloy frames and much better OEM accessories included. With the DS and KTM, they have raised the bar in their own ways, Kawasaki too though I think they released the quad about 6 months too soon. Expect the next generation YFZ due to appear later in 2008 and the Honda, maybe this year as well to have a host of upgrades to bring their quads into the same technological realm as the DS.
After that it's like the MX cousins....refinements and little "new features" here and there.
Think Honda will be the first to offer a steering stabilizer stock??? I wouldn't bet against it.

Nice features, but think its like the Honda 450R in that it has a wet clutch. The dry clutch the DS650 has is more for racing with many adjustable features and not spinning in bath of sitting oil (a drag effect). Wet clutches are more fail-proof, but the dry clutches are a better tuned Rotax design match. Its hard to tell exactly, but since I cannot easily find the clutch type on the DS 450, I'm assuming its the wet clutch type like the Jap 450's: its cheaper of course.
No Sandman, don't look like you've wasted anything on your beauty. Yours is a keeper for life. You can get lighter cast frame components, but you will never get a better Rotax designed thump drive train. And yours looks optimum to me. I'd just ride and enjoy it.</end quote></div>
My DS650 has a wet clutch.</end quote></div>
Thats OK Stir, When he looked at a picture of a DS jug and saw 2 exhaust ports he assumed it also had a dual exhaust. lol
I wonder if Eric knows about this dry clutch for drag racing? lol

What are you babbling about? Eric this, Eric that. Is he the one Randall kicked out and took all of his pictures off of his site?
I don't think you can compare an $80K+ atv held together by aluminum popcycle sticks to anything else. There is always choices between different options, but generally that is the concensus with most racers. The thousandth percentile of drag racers may be different, but by no means is a basis to make purchasing decisions.
Not many people can afford $50K per race, unless suckering other people to use their atv, gas, and time. Some do consistantly race 'on their own', 'win', and 'survive in the business as well'. Those are the few even drag racers should listen to. Is Eric in this group, or can he speak for himself?
If not, it would be refreshing to discuss model differences based on what is supplied on stock models; and not a single one-race build, never to be heard from again.

So, because I have a wet clutch on my DS, I have a 80K quad? I'll give you a hell of a deal on it, hows 15K sound?
How in the world did this discussion about the DS450 turn into a discussion on your feelings towards MrHP?
Builders like Eric (MrHP) & Jeff (TheBom) drag racing and pushing the limit benefit all of us with better cams, porting, pistons etc. Would you rather no one was building DSs? Are you going to step up and provide the next big thing for us average DS riders?
Look at Erbe, he wanted a big bore, and is doing it his own way. So far its working out well for him. I look forward to his updates. He saw what was being done at the high end and is taking time and effort to see how it could be brought down to those of us in the low end. What are you doing?
Step up, or stop bashing.

DS450 as a Dune Machine?
Mark, I am seriously looking at buying one. What do the ds450's go for OTD out west? The best I can get in DFW area is $8k OTD for a ds450.

Hey Marky! What's up!?!
TPR - Yeh, my buddy had the plastic or whatever off and showed me the wire to remove when you add the pipe and air filter. I do wonder though as the maps for different pipes on the Raptor can have drastically different fuel curves. . . ???
Tuning a FI bike is easy. I've got the Dynojet PowerCommander III USB. It connects via USB and I can easily upload / download maps. Take a ride and make some adjustments, another ride, more adjustments. Take it to the dyno and they can make adjustments very quickly. If you go to a Dynojet Dyno with the link package, the Dyno automatically updates your PCIII. I haven't seen this but, it sure sounds cool! I'm done with mods so, plan on getting my bike on the dyno to make sure it is dialed in. I expect about 30-minutes to dial it in. If it takes an hour, that's fine too.
Can't wait to ride one of these 450's. If I can hook up with my dealer bud, I'm sure I can throw my leg over one. I have a feeling he'll be doing a few mods to his (he didn't have it on the dyno for nothing the other day!)</end quote></div>
