Quadzilla or Ds650 for drag race?!! HELP
Well here is my question, I have both an 89 Zilla and a 01Ds650. Both are awesome bikes and they run about the same. I think the ds might be just a tad faster on the big end. I have decided to sell one (maybe) and make the other one a FAST weekend bike.
Ds650 has a 11.5 to one piston and a ported intake. Tm45 carb and an open exhaust. It runs very well and will beat all stock 4 strokes.
Quadzilla has a cool head and a paul turner exhaust. And one tooth down on the front. It also runs very well and will beat all stock 4 strokes.
My problem is niether one of em will beat a really modded 4 stroke or a modded banshee. Both bikes are in the middle ground. And i want a screamer.
So i am definately going to start in the direction on one bike. I JUST CANT DECIDE which one.
Please help. FOR THE MONEY, which would be the better option. I want a real screamer. Thanx in advance
Also please list what mods you would do to the bike you choose and about how much money would be invested?

2000 doesn't go far on the ds, probably 3000 to get the head and bore. the pipe and carb you have should work. what cams do you have? plus springs in the head. then the tires to hook up all that new power

Ok, i have stock cams and stock bore. Lets say i was to get a 14 to 1 stock bore piston and a good set of cams. And i would imagine it would need a shim under bucket conversion correct? And while i am at it port the head. So if i do those things, what level would that put my ds at. Compare it to a banshee or new 450. What type of bikes would i be outrunning? 6'3 280lb rider . And what would you estimate the cost of those mods. Minus the port job on the head.

cape windy had one of the first 730 kits maybe it was the first, anyway it had the 45 and some 1mm bigger valves, it had nice torque for larger riders, it was much faster than the speedy 450's and it had a clutch problem. not sure if the cams were 109 or 110. it was done by marky he could tell you about it

Ok, here is what I would recommend. If you want to really improve your revs, and some power with the piston go with an Eric's Gen 6 14-1. He is OMWRacing now. That Piston, shipped, with the rings gapped for you will run about $500. Just that change from my old RWR 11.5-1 was huge it rev speed alone. Makes the bike feel way different. Pick yourself up a set of 109 web cams (those can be run with heavy duty springs, but still better with the shim under.) New you are looking at about $225-250 on the cams Shim Under about $300-400. Or you could get a couple extra ponies accross your RPM range and do HR4s they run about $425. At this point, your open end cap may be holding you back and you are going to want to start looking at other exhaust options. Probobly a RWR full race Exhaust. Your porting is up to you, But KMS has a port job that he does for around $400. With the Gen 6 Piston, Mild port, 109 Cams, TM45, Exhaust, Good Filter and CDI you will be running with most of the bikes out there.
I have a bike in our shed with almost that exact same build, and my dad over 300lbs can run with my brother 225lbs on his Banshee that is piped jetted and ported and polished.... Hope that helps some....
