Default ds650 burning oil

well recently my 2000 ds650 started burning oil . at first it would burn a lil on start up and once it warmed up it would stop burning oil and run fine . but recently my ds would start to burn oil at low rpm''s and now at low rpm's its burning soo much that it floods itself with oil and dies. and the only way to get it started is to pull it behind my truck . everytime i park it hot it leaks oil onto the piston so when it starts up the next time it smokes like crazy till it burn all that away then runs decent as long as i keep the rpm's up so it doesnt flood itself with oil . i just need some help so i dont go spending a fortune on the wrong parts. im thinking it might be a blown head gasket or a vavle way out of adjustment. pls help

How is your coolant level? Chances are it is your head gasket and filling the cylinder with antifreeze instead of oil.

What color is the smoke? If it is white it is more than likely antifreeze, if it's blue then oil, either way it needs a head and base gasket, I would also change the rings on the piston too just to be safe.

it probably is coolant . because the smoke is very thick and white . is changing the head and base gasket a big job on the ds?

It is a fair amount of work, it really depends on how mechanical you are. It sounds like you only need the head gasket, but unless your frame has been modified a little bit, you will have to pull the whole motor to do it...

no need to take out of frame, just cut the center frame rail, when you try to remove the head you will see where it hits. I just cut it a little, then pounded it until the head could be removed.

You are just cutting a notch out of it so that the head will clear. It has not hurt mine, and I am 300#s and dune, trail, and jump the heck out of her!!!
