Brake Failure 2008 Can-Am Outlander 800
#22
I have an AC400 and ride with a friend who has a CAN-AM 400 MAX XT. The brakes on the CAN-AM make a grinding noise, if they even get slightly wet. I don't think this should be considered normal. My Arctic Cat doesn't do this and neither do the Polaris machines that sometimes come with us on a ride. For $10,000.00+ I would think you should expect that the brakes operate unnoticed. I recently saw this reported in a magazine article and they also noted how annoying it was on an otherwise great machine.

every machine has their quirks. I am all around happy with mine, and although occasionally I also get brake noise, it does not really bother me, and I know if I want I can change the pads. people keep saying that for a $10k machine you should expect better. think of it this way. you do all your research online before you buy. thats what I did, and I think its what most people do now. then you test drive all the machines you are interested in. decide the outty is the one you really like best, and you want an outty, but are concerend about the brake noise. you know from chatting with everyone online that a $60 set of pads will remove the noise. are you telling me you are willing to spend 10K, but 10K +$60 is going to stop you.. lol I think not. take a step back for a second and think about it lol.

Well, you would think that for $10,500 Arctic Cat could put a SWAY BAR on the IRS of their Thundercat, but they don't. Funny how the magazines NEVER MENTIONED THAT LITTLE FACT, huh? Don't believe everything that you read in "the magazines" as being the gospel according to (insert magazine name here) unless you verify it yourself. 99% of the time it's cubic ad dollars that are driving the shoot out winner, and not the mechanics of the machines.
As far as a little noise is concerned, who cares as long as the brakes work. I keep telling people that the noise is Can Am's version of ABS. They are either too stupid to know the truth, or are willing to believe it as fact.
