Rene 800 Feedback
#1
Houdy yall,
I was just wondering if any one in here could give me some feedback on the renegade 800. I am looking to pick one up new here soon. My main questions are about how dependable they are and maintenance? I am really after dependability....somthing that will be around in 10 or 15 years. I currently have a wolverine 450 and love the sport 4x4 idea just need more power. I am just concerned becuse I used to have a DS650 (great machine) holy #$%^ where parts exspensive compared to other brands. As I am sure most know better than I..... very little aftermarket so you always would have to go to the Stealer for parts. Not looking to do any real performance mods or insane riding. Just want somthing that wil not leave me in the middle of no where broke down or cost an arm and a leg to fix. Any feedback would be much appricated!

I have an 08 rene and first off full skidplates are a must, I added a Precision Steering Stabilizer for rough terrain and high speed handling. Last ride out I hit one of the million rocks and bent a front rim (ride over). Now I have 4 SS 212's and changed the front ITP's Dunlop Quadmax tires (increase in height and makes me feel better-tougher tire). Once I got all this done and some more under protection, I think it will now be more reliable for me. It would seem to be a reliable piece but I think the wheels are too light for rocky areas. JOHN

Beer Season,
I'm in the same boat. Just about pulled the trigger on a new Renegade 800 this week but decided to look around and research it more. One thing I found in my area I have only two dealer options for repair or parts (also not much negotiating room!). The only thing that stopped me was the price! But overall this quad is the only one on the market that offers what I'm looking for (Power, 4x4, ground clearance, etc.). Any info is much appreciated!
Thanks

If you want to run with the big dogs, you have to leave the porch. In other words, if you want the most powerful, best handling, best suspended 4x4 in the world, you have to pay a premium price for it. I'd wait until the '09s came out on the show room floors (due in no small part to the 800R motor). Unless you're willing to commit to a '08 at a discount price. If I had to do it all again, I'd wait for the 800R in the Renegade X.
To answer the OP,
It really depends on how you're going to ride it. Performance comes at a price. If you expect to "ride it hard and put it up wet", it won't last very long. If you're willing to do a little maintenance, it will last 10 or 15 years easily.

The price I can handle but only if I have confidence that what I'm paying for is really worth that price. So I'm guessing you have an 08 Renegade or? And that you are happy with it? I have no doubt in my mind that nothing stock off of the showroom floor can match it as of now. I've seen them on the dunes and was amazed on how well they performed even with the 4x4 gear train.
Thanks

Nope, an 800 Outlander XT. They are basically the same machine aside from plastics (I removed the racks / brush guards, but left the winch on). Like I said, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I might have been better off with the Renegade. However, there were two times I used the winch. The first was to winch myself out of a chest deep pond my quad was floating in and the second was to move my fiancee's 1976 Dodge Charger back about three feet from a tree to get under the hood. Both times more than paid for the upgrade.
As you can tell, I'm a firm believer in Can Am's upgrade packages. For $900, you can get just the rear shocks for a non X Renegade, or for the same amount of money you can get adjustable front and rear shocks, skidplate for the frame, hand guards, better seat cover, reinforced rims and black plastic. Hey, it's your money, but I'd go for it.

If you want it to last 10 - 15yrs 1st thing to do b4 putitn some miles on it is put some skids on it. The Renegade is all the power you need. And if you get the 09R it will have even more power

Sounds good. If I want a 09 I have to wait until July (according to my local dealer). I'll probably wait and see if they will make me a deal. Not sure if there is any bargaining room when the 09's come but will see. I'll take your advice and if I pull the trigger I'll pay the extra for the X version.
Thanks
