Default 2000 Oil Tank Issues

On another board, I was advised to swap out my oil tank and hose for a 2001 and later because of issues in case of rollover... anyone hear off this?

Default 2000 Oil Tank Issues

A 2000, if rolled, can trap an air bubble in the oil line leading to the pump and cause cavitation, or oil starvation. My friend encountered this once out on the dunes and we had to remove the oil filter and open the bleed screw behind it to burp the air out.
I also have a 2000 and everytime I change the oil I must open the bleed screw.

2001 and up have a small fitting on the oil tank and another on the steel oil line going into the motor behind the cylinder. These enable any trapped air to vent into the top of the oil tank. If you could find one cheap, it would be a good idea to get a tank, hose and different fitting behind the cylinder. I personally just carry the necessary tools and generally avoid roll overs (but not always)

I Had the same problem on a trail roll over once. Had to remove the oil filter and bleed the system to get the oil back to the engine.

I too have to bleed the system everytime I change the oil - pain in the a_ _.

i had that problem once on the trail, after i got the quad off me, i shut the fuel off and tipped it up on its back end fr a couple of minutes and that seemed to let the air out of it. just so you know to screw the newstyle adapter into the engine the jug has to be removed i think.

I would think he ment the hose to back of the engine behind the head to drain all the oil.

Sorry, that's exactly what I meant, I drain that hose every time and it seems like allot of sediment is in there or discolored oil. That line leads to the fitting that Bombardier added the return line to so I expect that location is where air is trapped on 2000 models.
