tm45

hey guys,
I installed my tm45 and its pretty sweet. i cant seem to get it running right for some reason. i was running the jets that came with it, which was the 150 main and the 40 pilot jet. the idle would be at 2000+ rpms. i tried tweaking the pilot air mixture screw, as well as the idle adjustment. still no luck. when i would give it the juice it would hesitate, then rev up. so i decided to jet it down to a 145 main and a 35 pilot. it ran a little better, still some hesitation, and it feels like less power. any advice???

What's your elevation. I think you're way too lean. If you tell us the elevation that would help, but even at 4500ft I run a 155 - 157.5 and it seems like I need to go a little richer. Even with the idle adjuster you can't get it to idle below 2000rpm? Let us know a couple more details and we'll see what we can do.

Im at sea level, and the idle adjuster will screw out before it takes me bleow 2000 rpms. the only way i can get my idle down to 1400 is to tighten the pilot air screw all the way in and back it out maybe a half a turn. even then the idle will change. like sometimes it will be 1300 rpms, then it will bounce up to 1900 rpms. and if i rev it up, even with the air screw at a half turn, it will stay at 2000, then gradually come back down

Something is wrong. I'm not quite sure what would cause that idle problem. But your main jet needs to be around 162.5. and put your needle at 2nd groove from the top, or 3rd if it needs more. Is the choke all the way in? Does the choke assembly look like it's in good shape. Also is the accelerator pump activated? It's the little jet that squirts toward the needle on the opening of the carb and it's activated by the metal rod and the back right side of the carb.

And if all of that doesn't work, retrace your throttle cable. It may be binding up somwhere and keeping your rpms from dropping back down.

Very good point Ace. Banana Hands make sure the cable is adjusted loose enough to where it's not pulling. I have had that happen to me. You will also want to adjust the carb so the pump is activated right from the get go, you'll need that for sure.

I AGREE WITH ACE ON THE THROTTLE CABLE THE NEEDLE ADJUSTMENT IS TO SOLVE YOUR HESISITATION PROBLEM.AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THROTTLES STICKING.BUT I HAVE LEARNED JETTING FOR THROTTLE RESPONSE DOSE WORK IN RARE CASES BUT NEEDLE HEIGHT IS NORMALY THE CULPRIT.GARY @ CUSTOM ATV IN MESA TOUGHT ME THAT.AND HE WAS RIGHT!!! BOOOOOOOM IM GONE AT THE CRACK OF A THROTTLE.
