welcome to the forum! research this topic, ther have been alot of people with this problem. you can use a heli-coil if you are careful. dose your engine have a seperait cut out for a drain plug assembly? or is it simply molded to a case half?

if you are careful, flip you atv over and look threw the drain plug hole and see if there is anything you might dammage if you go too far into the case. if not go to the hardware store and buy a helicoil slightly larger than the current plug size. and a new bolt to be your plug

ok, you dont wana hit the screen. a helicoil is basically going to rethread your draing hole, allowing you to use a larger size bolt. just find a guy at the hardware store and tell him what you need

Couple other possibilities. Can retap to the next larger size (metric or SAE) also & get a new plug. Or they make self tapping oversized plugs.

It would be nice if they made the plug softer than the hole threads so could just replace plug.

w/e you do, dont go a cheap route, i did this and just tryed to get a plug "to stay in there" or be "tight enough", cost me my engine. The drain plug stripped back out from not being sturdy enough, was a the race track makin a few laps, hittin the jumps dropped it out, i lost my oil, she stalled out and sounded horrible, got 'er home and found out i ruined my crank, pumps, piston, MY MOTOR! If you dont feel capable, have a mech put in that heli coil, the $50 is better to spend than $1500

thanks for saying that nickds650! you can overstress that enough, if you dont feel confident have a mechanic do the heli-coil!

I took it to my local can-am dealer and they put in a new brass insert with a new plug. It was cheap - I had the oil changed and something else done it and it was $100.
