Other than that they are very nice machines. And if done right take well to mods.

I've got an 04 that i purchased used. It was a stock machine. the Baja model is a bit more expensive due to add ons for rougher riding - hand guards, plastic package, suspension, reinforced rims, etc. My buddy has the Baja model. I've recently taken up desert racing (just went 60 miles and am about to undertake 240 miles with a two other partners). 5th gear, over bumpy desert terrain, doing 85+ MPH, you will appreciate the bike. They can handle the dunes just fine and can go everywhere a Banshee can go (I should know, I have both the DS and two Banshee's). The nice thing, after being on this forum and talking to people about desert racing, is that the DS can run most of the stuff you will get into with a stock machine. The only mods I made were on the front shocks and an air filter. The rest was left alone. They are plenty fast and hearty to handle anything you can throw at them. My friends who have had big bikes and banshee's all their life's love the DS - it is an impressive bike right off the showroom (or used) floor.
