'00 DS650 REFUSING to idle
#1
Hey guys, I have a 2000 or 2001, owner that we bought it from was not clear, the frame of the bike says made in 03/2000.
I bought it knowing it needed a clutch replacement, not a big deal.
But, the problem is, the machine will not idle properly. We can turn start the machine using the electric starter, and it will run, only if the throttle is held a little bit. We have tried using the idle adjustment on the carb, but no luck, it seems to be turned all the way up, or it is not doing anything at all.
Also, ontop of the idle problem, when running it (Just sitting in neutral revving) it will backfire like no other. Every time you goose the throttle it will back fire with 1-3 loud pops.
Just looking to see if anyone else has had similar problems, and might know the solution.
Thanks guys,
kyle
PS, the machine is pretty much stock other than just a Yoshi Slip on, dynojet kit, and other cosmetic upgrades.
We have checked the jetting, cleaned the entire carb, cleaned every jet.
Also we have tried changing the mixture screw, but no help.

Check the correct order of needle assembly.
Starting from bottom up.
1- Thick washer
2- White plastic washer
3- Clip in 2nd or 3rd groove down from top of needle, attached to needle
4- Washer
5- Retainer with spring - to hold assembly in place
Pilot screw out with DJ needle 2 1/2 to 3 turns out from seated position.

Hey guys, just updating with great news, I got the machine running like a top. I guess that the long time that it has been sitting without stabil has completely oxidized the inside of one of the jets. When I had it apart cleaning it before I thought i cleaned it adequately, but apparently not. :-/
Well, thank you all for your help, .
Also, another question, I bought the ATV knowing it would need a clutch replacement, what brand clutch kit seems to be the best? (I will be doing dune & trail riding)
Thanks much,
Kyle
