Default DS big wheel project in the works

I'm sending my front hubs out tomorrow to get them machined down to 4/110, then I'm going to run 12x7, 5+2 offset wheels with 26/9-12 Maxxis Razr 4 Speeds. I have +2 a arms on order to compensate for the loss of width with the wheels, should end up +2 overall width. The rear will be cheaper to do, 25/12-9's on stock wheels. I'll post pics when she's all together. I'm doing it for a desert type setup, larger diameter tires roll over stuff so much better than the little 22/23 inch combo.

Can't wait to see how it turns out. Good luck on the project.

I hear ya, it seems the only places I ever ride the DS these days is on backroads & such. I mainly keep on the KTM bike or 4x4 quad for trails so I figure why not make the DS a true specialty machine that's great at the one thing I do with it. I figure with the 72 hp at the ground 730, wide & stretched stance, tall gearing and big tires she will be about as good as it gets for fire road blasting. I can't wait! Just ordered the arms and hubs go out to OMW today, should be all together in about a week! Here's a before pic.

Almost forgot, am I doing the math correctly on the stance? If she has 2+3 offset wheels now and I change to 5+2 I loose one inch per side, total of 2 inches overall. Then the addition of +2 a arms would net +2 overall instead of +4 because I lost the 2 inches overall with the wheel offset change, right? Thanks!

That sounds right, and I can't wait to see those after photos. That would be a blast to ride out in the open desert and such!

They aren't in the before pic but I have Fox Floats up front and an Elka out back set up for max couch effect, the big tires should just be icing on the cake.

Just a quick update, everything is in but the hubs, should be here this week. I'll tell y'all one thing, I really think I'm going to like this setup just from setting the tires up against the spindles. Looks bad a$$

Please post a picture or two when you get it rolling. I recall seeing an article on doing this to a DS but can't remember where!. Something about it being harder on the brakes or needing more stopping distance.
Thanks.

I saw the same thing but also can't remember where. The longer stopping distance makes sense. Just found out the hubs won't be here untill next week, the suspense is killing me! Looks like I'll be pushing 56" wide...
