Default new ds owner with a fan question

i recently got a 2006 DS650X. it runs great and i love it. i have not yet taken it on a ride because i want to make sure everything is in working order. i have putted around the house and let it idle for a while, but the fan has yet to come on. how long would it have to idle, from startup, before the fan will come on? that way i could check it. i am dying to take it out but dont want to destroy the engine.

In some cases, a good load needs to be placed on the engine before the fan will come on - & even then, with the size of the radiator on these things, it can take a good while.

Just drive it, you have a red light that will come on.

Just idiling with you giving it a few revs every now and then will take atleast five minutes. It will kick on at 210 and off at 190. I've ridin in triple digits out here inthe desert through some tough sandy washes and hill climbs and it still takes a while to come on. I was concerned as you are at first but once I learned the machine found it was normal.
Ride hard, ride safe.

An easy way to check if its working is to unhook the 2 wires at the fan switch (by the thermosate) and jump the switch. As soon as you connect the 2 terminals the fan should turn on.

I keep a toogle switch with a couple of short pieces of wire with me, when I ride. Just in case

+1 good idea and the fan switch is a good mod to invest in...easy to do as well.
