Default Swingarm & ride height question

I have an ODP +4 swingarm that makes my rear end ride too high, even with an Elka shock built for this swinger. Were there ever any issues with early production runs of this unit that perhaps didn't have the shock mount placed correctly. Do longer swingers usually increase rear ride height? I would have thought the opposite. Any solutions?

I ran a +4 ODP for awhile, it did raised it, but I ended up running more sag to get it back to the stock height.

Mine had the shock mount in the stock location.

Hey thanks Stir. After a bunch of research, that seems to be the nature of the beast. I'm going to have one made with the mount placed more rearward. The only dilema is how much? There seems to be no formula for how much rearward placement to achieve a certain amount of ride height drop. The builder said he could lay it out on Cad & get close. Anyone care to speculate, I was thinking perhaps an inch or so might drop me 3 inches?

be careful to not get too much up travel! I was looking at doing the same thing, but I went back to stock length since I mostly ride dirt.

Remember you are now running around 13.25 inches of rear travel with the stock mount on a +4, so even with more sag to get back to stock height you still have plenty of down travel. Here is a spreadsheet that I made when I was setting mine up. You can put your own travel numbers in it to play with. Moving the shock mount will affect your travel.

When I tried to correct my ride height via preload with both the stock shock and the Elka I ended up with like 8 inches of sag to get the desired ride height. So when she was sitting right, she had very little travel left. Do ya think with a differently placed mount I will be able to get closer to 4 inches of sag with the height I'm looking for?

Just in case you were wondering I'm the guy that's set up with 26's up front & 25's in the rear with a 56" front stance. This pic has 22's out back with Fox Floats but I now have Elkas front & rear & 25" rears. The desert seat is a part of the added rear ride height, I believe it has like 2 or 3 inches more foam.

Update: looks like my local fab/builder says he can mod the swinger to relocate the shock mount & maybe make things work. If everything works out I'll post pics of the fabrication. Here's where we're starting from...

I'm running a +5 Ace Fab swinger and had the shock mount on the swingarm moved down. The bike sits nicely with the shock at full extension.

Do you literally mean down or rearward? How far back or down? Thanks!
