Default 05 Outlander Voltage Regulator?

I have a 2005 Outlander Max 400.
I'm getting the dreaded FAIL message and the lights are dimming at idle. I assume it's the vr, I will check the voltage output this week. I did recently replace the factroy battery with an Exide 20L-BS.

I called the local dealer about parts, said they would run a diagnostic on it when they have time.

The part they are showing to replace this is a $451 amplifier box, part # 420664285. Does anybody know of a much cheaper after market replacement part for this?

That seems like it's been longer ago than last summer. I'm pretty sure I got a new voltage regulator fromm ebay. I'll chek my history there and see what I find.

I bought a voltage regulator/rectifier from a dealer called rmstatorinc for about $70 on ebay. It was a plug in unit, took just a few minutes to replace.
It was like this one, not sure about interchangablility from year to year though. Good luck.

Looks like we have the exact same machine. I have a 2005 Outlander 400 MAX.

The mechanic says the CDI box is bad but I don't want to pay 525.00 to BRP... So im kinda looking for an alternative.

It didn't show a direct cross so I emailed them. Hopefully get an answer soon..

If what your mechanic is calling the CDI box is the black box mounted next to the battery with 1 wiring harness coming off of it, that should be the same as thing as a rectifier. I'm pretty sure that will be the same as the one listed for sale. Hopefully the seller replies with that news for you.

Nope, not the same. The CDI box is located in the front of the ATV, it looks like its attached to the main harness, but i called RMSTATOR in canada and they said its completely different. .. So im continuing to call the salvage yards .... otherwise BRP gets another 500 dollars from me.

I wish some of these places would get up and make some aftermarket parts for these machines. It gets a bid old having to put OEM parts in all the time when you can't find them online.

Ouch, that hurts. Post the info if you find a cheaper alternative.
Good luck.
