00 ds650 oil in the air box

Default 00 ds650 oil in the air box

i picked this ds up a few weeks ago, i noticed some oil comming from the air box so i checked it out and the box is covered in the inside. so after riding for a half aday its pissing out the air box. any ideas? runs strong no smoke, just pissing oil out the air box.

That would be your crankcase vent.....if its leaking that much oil out of the crank case vent....you got issues with blowby on the piston. Remove the vent hose from the airbox install a small k and n filter on the end and relocate the vent hose and watch it for oil leakage then. I mounted my vent up under the front plastic on top of the rad.

i run my crankcase vent up the frame beside the radiator and loop right back down zip tied to frame in front of the motor with end of hose just below bottom of frame so it can drip on the ground rather than make a mess anywhere. even with a perfect piston ring seal you can cough oil out any crankcase vent from a rollover..
years ago all crankcase vents were ran down below the motor to drip, all the honda 3 wheelers of yesteryear, lawn mowers, you name it..
companies have to follow emmissions standards and burn crankcase vapor so that's why they are stuffed into airbox intakes but its really not that big a deal IMO, let her drip. When it gets bad enough to bother you, replace your piston with a fresh cylinder hone and roll on like an 18 wheeler.
