Default Ground clearance question

I have a 2007 outlander 650 xt. It is supposed to have 12" of ground clearance, but in the front it has only 8" and In the back only 10". Is this common and is there an easy way to fix it? I notice that the shocks are on setting 2 of 5 (2nd softest), will jacking that up make a difference?

If the shocks have settled a bit cranking them up might add some height. When I put heavy duty springs on my Sportsman X2 it lifted the front end quite a bit over stock. Cranking up the adjustment should have the same effect. From the factory, the ground clearance is usually measured at the center of the quad on an IRS ATV.
