Renegade 500 vs. Scrambler 500

The Renegade 500 would be an upgrade to the Scrambler. I like Scramblers alot but feel they are now behind the times. The Renegade 500 is quite a bit quicker than the Scrammy. My son's wipes out all of our riding friend's 500s and leaves them far behind. The Rene has electronic fuel injection, independent rear suspension, and no chain to have to maintain. The only things I think are a little better on the Scrammy is the 4wd engagement and the frame. The Polaris system is much quicker where the CanAm system slowly adds traction to the front. The CanAm also has a weaker frame. There are aftermarket frame inserts that help strengthen it or a good set of skid plates will help.

I've only rode my son's a few times and the steering is pretty light. You actually have to lean into the handlebars if you are goosing the throttle as the engine has lots of tourque. I can't imagine how the 800 must feel. That's comparing to my Sportsman X2 with 26" tires that is built like a tank. Oh, and another thing that just popped into my mind is that my son's Rene 500 gets about 30 mpg or so unless it is all low gear technical stuff.

I think going from a scrambler to a renegade would be a night and day difference. I am sure that the rotax 500 throws significantly more hp than the polaris motor does. Suspension is another key advantage. the scrambler uses an outdated MacPherson strut system. If there is any question in which one to buy, go with the renegade.

Looks like there is about 5-6 hp difference between the two.

Down side to the Can AM more money and more weight. http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/en...=195652&go2=Go
The Renegades are really just a Outlander Utility ATV with no racks and different plastic. The Outlander cost less also if you want to save a few bucks and carry something.
